Chrono Odyssey Developer Notes: Addressing Combat, Controls, and More!
Greetings, Chrono Odyssey players! Following up on our previous developer notes, we're thrilled to share more details about the improvements we're making based on your invaluable feedback from the recent closed beta. Your participation was crucial in shaping the future of Chrono Odyssey, and we deeply appreciate your insights.
Combat System Enhancements
The combat system is undergoing significant changes to address issues with responsiveness, feedback, and overall depth. We've identified several key areas for improvement:
- Controls: Input responsiveness is being significantly improved. We're reducing input buffering, adjusting animation interruption timing, and enhancing UI feedback to confirm inputs. The experience is being optimized for both keyboard & mouse and controller users, with customizable key mapping and sensitivity settings on the way. Expect better ranged targeting, especially for controller users, along with added accessibility options.
- Hit Feedback: Hit reactions are getting a boost! Expect more frequent knockback effects, improved stagger thresholds, and more noticeable damage floaters. Crowd control effects will have longer durations, giving you more time to capitalize on those key moments in battle. Enemy attack patterns will offer more opportunities for parrying, countering, blocking, and dodging, adding a strategic layer to combat encounters.
- Damage Feedback: You'll now clearly recognize incoming damage, even when navigating menus. Hitboxes and network latency issues are being addressed to ensure visual consistency with actual game effects. New hit reaction animations, enhanced sound, and camera effects will make combat more immersive and impactful.
- Skill Synergies: We're enhancing the skill system to support diverse playstyles. Each weapon will now offer four distinct combat styles, and skills across different weapons will link together, allowing for exciting combinations. Improved skill descriptions, including video explanations, and clearer buff/debuff indicators will greatly improve clarity.
- Class Balance: To address the issue of similar class roles, we're introducing the Matrix system – a skill tree allowing players to specialize their weapons and define their role, leading to four distinct combat styles even within the same weapon type. This is complemented by improvements to monster AI which will pose a more significant challenge to ranged classes. This system will greatly enhance class identity and improve balance across all weapons and classes.
- Weapon Swapping: We're smoothing out weapon swapping to make it responsive, less prone to unintended actions, and visually clearer. The transition between weapons will be noticeably improved with added visual and HUD effects.
Beyond Combat: Addressing Other Key Areas
Improvements extend beyond combat. We're also refining:
- Open-World Content: More details on this will come in a future update, but expect exciting new additions here.
- Progression and Gameplay Flexibility: The Matrix system mentioned above greatly contributes to this, opening many different builds.
- Technical Stability: We're actively working to improve the overall stability and performance of the game.
- Art, UI/UX, and Sound: Across the board, these elements are receiving a polish to improve the overall player experience. Expect enhanced animations, improved UI clarity, and an enriched soundscape.
