War Thunder's August Event: Fly the F-106A "Six Shooter"
War Thunder players can participate in a new event featuring the F-106A "Six Shooter", a supersonic interceptor that entered service with the U.S. Air Force in 1959. This event, running from August 13th (11:00 GMT) to August 27th (11:00 GMT), allows players to earn mission points in Air Battles to unlock various rewards.

The F-106A "Six Shooter": A Modernized Classic
The F-106A "Six Shooter", available in-game in its modernized 1970s configuration, boasts impressive speed and maneuverability. Its features include a Helmet-Mounted Sight, a powerful six-barrel 20 mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon with a substantial 650 rounds of ammunition, four AIM-4F/G Super Falcon air-to-air missiles, and the option to equip two external fuel tanks. This makes it a formidable addition to any player's air force in War Thunder.
Event Mechanics and Rewards
Players earn mission points in Air Battles at Rank III or higher, across Arcade, Realistic, and Simulator modes. The point accumulation rate varies based on the game mode and the highest-ranked vehicle used. A multiplier is displayed in-game. Even using event vehicles at Rank I and II allows players to contribute to their progress. Each stage requires 35,000 mission points to unlock and offers different rewards.
Stages reset every two days at 11:00 GMT on August 15th, 17th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, and 25th. Completing different numbers of stages yields diverse rewards:
- 1 Stage: A trophy containing a random reward (Silver Lions, boosters, orders, etc.).
- 2 Stages: One of several available decals (Emblems of the 112th Fighter Squadron, 159th Fighter Squadron, or California Air National Guard).
- 3 Stages: An "Explosive Watermelon" Silver Chest.
- 4 Stages: Another decal choice from the available set.
- 5 Stages: The "Emblem of the California Air National Guard" decal.
- 6 Stages: A unique camouflage for the F-106A "Six Shooter".
- 7 Stages: A non-tradable coupon for the F-106A "Six Shooter".
The Silver Chest contains several possibilities: 50,000 to 100,000 Silver Lions, Silver Lion and Research Point boosters, various orders and wagers, one to three universal backups, and a random camouflage for purchased vehicles. Remember to manually claim your rewards from your profile's Sky Guard section after unlocking a stage.
Golden Eagle Purchases and Discounts
Players can use Golden Eagles to purchase incomplete stages. However, a significant discount is applied based on the player's progress: a 50% discount for 85% completion and an 80% discount for 95% completion. For example, a stage requiring 35,000 mission points would cost 499 Golden Eagles at 85% completion but only 199 Golden Eagles at 95% completion. This offers a strategic element for players seeking to maximize their rewards.
Historical Context of the F-106
While the F-106 did not see combat in Vietnam, its potential role as air cover led to the "Six Shooter" modernization program in 1972. This program integrated an internal cannon, an optical sight, and a transparent canopy. By the 1980s, the U.S. Air Force transitioned to newer fighters, transferring the F-106s to the National Guard, where they served until 1988. This event provides players with the opportunity to experience this iconic aircraft in a modernized state.
This event offers War Thunder players an engaging challenge and rewards players with both cosmetic and functional items, furthering their progression within the game. The blend of historical context and strategic gameplay ensures that this event will keep players engaged throughout its duration. The addition of the F-106A Six Shooter, a historically significant aircraft, makes this an event not to be missed by aviation enthusiasts and War Thunder players alike.
