NCSoft Showcases Aion 2 at Gamescom 2025
NCSoft presented Aion 2 at Gamescom 2025, marking a significant return for the franchise over a decade after its initial success. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, this new installment aims to realize the studio's original ambitions with modern technology.
Expansive World and Enhanced Mechanics
The game promises a world 36 times larger than the original Aion, supported by a revamped flight system and fluid exploration. Spectacular graphics, made possible by next-generation hardware, set a new visual standard for the series. To fully experience the rendering, a recommended PC configuration includes an RTX 2070 GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and an SSD.
Aion 2 retains the classic structure of its predecessor, featuring the same factions and eight playable classes. The content offering has been significantly expanded, with over 200 dungeons designed for 4 to 8 players. A highly advanced character creation system allows for extensive customization, and the game includes single-player, co-op PvE modes, and large-scale PvP with arenas, battlefields, and open-world player killing.
Innovative Server and Faction Balance
To address common MMORPG issues like faction imbalance, NCSoft is implementing an innovative server system. Each server will host a single faction, with seasonal showdowns between the top servers from each side. This approach aims to balance competition and prevent long-term dominance in Realm versus Realm zones.
Release Schedule and Platform Details
Aion 2 is set to launch in South Korea and Taiwan in November 2025, followed by a worldwide release, including Western markets, in mid-2026. The game will be playable on PC and mobile devices, with cross-play functionality and support for the latest graphics technologies.
Monetization and Gameplay
Microtransactions will be available, but all essential items can also be earned through gameplay, though this may require substantial farming, a common trait in Korean MMORPGs.
